Several years have passed since the Wilamette incident, and Dead Rising 2 shifts the action from the everyday world of mid-West America to the glitz and glamour of Fortune City, America’s latest and greatest entertainment playground. Like millions of Americans, former national motocross champion Chuck Greene is gripped by the TV sensation that is Terror is Reality. Hosted by the flamboyant Tyrone King, Terror is Reality pits ordinary members of the public against an arena full of zombies with a simple challenge – kill more zombies than your opponents and stay alive with the winner collecting big money and the chance to come back and secure even greater prizes. So, what is it that has forced Chuck to come to Fortune City and risk his life in the modern day gladiatorial contest, is he trying to recapture the fame of his motocross days, does he have a reason to hate zombies, or is it simply the lure of big money?

Ever wanted to be in "the family" and named Vito? Well then your in luck! Vito is a downtrodden guy who has day dreams of escaping his life of poverty that rules his childhood. Lusting after wealth and a position of power, Vito realises crime is his best chance at obtaining his goals.

While the basic story is similar to most novels and classic mafia movies, Vito moves up the ranks from his petty criminal activites to some serious violations of the law. All this is in order to lock in his status as a 'Made Man'. While this appears a glamourous lifestyle, the story shows the down sides to a life of crime.

The environment that has been created for this game transports you back to the 40's and 50's in America. Nevermind that Empire Bay is a completely fictional city, the detail in the environment is impressive. The missions dictate the time of day and weather which enhances the flow of the game.

Mafia II is an open world game and it has some eye opening gunfights and vehicle based exploration. Sometimes things don't go as planned and revenge missions ensue. Lets not forget that you can damage the fantastic enviroments as you travel through the missions. This is an impressive game with loads of detail thrown in.

While you have a great range of weapons at your disposal, you will need to attack with some stategy as Vito can not take many hits. Your enemies also drop with the same amount of punishment. The combat isn't ground breaking, but you have to master the balance of fragility and power. The exciting part for me was the fact that your enemies will seek cover and your alies will not stand in your way!

The mean streets of Empire Bay really come to life in this game. Solid combat and a city that lives around you as you travel through it, leaves you feeling like you are taking control of Empire Bay.

Workstation Shootout: Nvidia Quadro 5000 Vs. ATI FirePro V8800

Nvidia sure didn't waste any time introducing its Fermi architecture to the workstation space. Its Quadro 5000 is one of the first models to use the company's GF100 graphics processor. How does this card stack up against ATI’s flagship FirePro V8800?

The first half of this year felt like Nvidia was taking a time-out or a nap, leaving both its third-party board vendors and customers impatient (BFG, of course, paid the ultimate price). It seemed the company was content to keep creatively renaming its desktop graphics chips, and thus sticking with its then-current portfolio.

Meanwhile, AMD launched its entire line of DirectX 11-compatible Radeon HD 5000-series cards, literally from top to bottom.

Finally, after several delays, Nvidia brought its own DirectX 11 GPU to market, officially called GF100 and based on the Fermi architecture.

That sets the stage for today’s comparison in which we will pit Nvidia’s new Quadro 5000 against AMD's flagship ATI FirePro V8800, comparing both cards to previous-generation parts as well. Since some of our readers may not be familiar with workstation graphics, allow us to provide a frame of reference by comparing them to their mainstream gaming brethren.

The Quadro 5000 is based on Nvidias GF100 GPU and contains 352 shader cores, making it more or less a twin of the GeForce GTX 465. The main differences between the two relate to the memory subsystem and the clock frequencies. AMD's FirePro V8800 is built around the company's Cypress XT (RV870), the same GPU powering its Radeon HD 5870.

So, going into this comparison, what should our expectations be? Comparisons between the gaming versions of these cards show them going head-to-head in many cases, with AMD taking the lead in some cases and Nvidia in others, depending on the game, benchmark, and settings. In the past, this sort of pattern has translated quite well into the workstation world. Will this hold true here as well, or will we see a clear winner emerge?

When it unveiled its Fermi architecture, Nvidia repeatedly stressed that this design was not developed expressly for the gaming market. Instead, the company strove to create a design that could also target the workstation segment, as well as HPC markets. Today‘s test will also show whether Nvidia achieves this goal.

Before we dive into the benchmarks, we’ll take a closer look at the contenders, sizing up Nvidia’s Quadro 5000 and the ATI FirePro V8800. We’ll also consider their respective fields.
